The State of the Dolphins

Right now is make or break for our beloved Miami Dolphins.  We are at the fragile point where we are an average team whose current off-season will decide which side of the scale we tip towards.  We've already had what many would deem a mediocre free agency period.  Including the re-signing of DT Paul Soliai, we've signed and re-signed nothing but backup-type players, and spent a lot of money doing it ($19,487,000 give or take a couple thousand dollars).  We've traded our Pro Bowl wideout, Brandon Marshall, for a pair of 3rd round picks and released our leading tackler for the past 2 seasons, Yeremiah Bell, in order to make more cap room to sign backup-type players.  Cameron Wake, our best pass rusher, is holding out of voluntary workouts because he wants a new deal (can't really blame him, he's making less money that our long snapper).  I seriously doubt many Dolphins' fans would call this a great start to the offseason.  With all that, we're now left with an estimated cap space of $6,139,170 (just enough to sign our 2012 draft class and maybe a couple backups).

Now, let's get into the draft.  We hold the 8th overall pick.  The million dollar question: What are we going to do with it?  If Ryan Tannehill (QB, Texas A&M) falls to us, do we take him?  Do we take a much needed pass rusher to help the defense?  Do we take an offensive lineman who will strengthen the right side of our line?  Maybe we take a wide receiver to replace some of Brandon Marshall's production?  We have quite a few needs, and this pick has to be an impact player THIS YEAR in order to be successful!!

Here is the order of our picks:
Round 1 (8)
Round 2 (42)
Round 3 (72)
Round 3 (73)
Round 4 (103)
-----------------------------Everyone chosen above this line MUST be major contributors THIS YEAR!!
Round 5 (145)
Round 6 (196)
Round 7 (215)

What's your take on our the state of the Dolphins?  How would you grade our free agency?  What should we do with the 8th overall pick and the rest of the the draft?  Please leave a comment.  And, thanks for reading.
